Nutrend Industries is the largest manufacture of Riddling Machines in the United States.


Nutrend Industries has  a reputation for great customer service and ingenuity. We also manufacture various winery equipment. With 44 years of experience, NuTrend Industries has completed jobs all over the globe including: the Philippines, Australia, China and all over the United States.


The company was started in 1966. Although the name has change from time to time, the ownership and integrity has remained the same. The company started out by building machines for fruit induction which included many trades, including an in-house black smith. The learning of all the different trades had to be a must, to be successfully equipped in special design.

Introducing the Smart Green Case. The name is a combination of words from the product’s description and function.  


  1. “Smart” stands for its inventory track abilities.

  2. “Green” is because it is environmentally friendly.

  3. “Case” is because it’s more than a box.

The riddling process: not all that puzzling

Sawyer has been making sparkling wines since 1989. At Scharffenberger, which currently produces about 25,000 cases of sparklers per year, he uses mechanical riddling machines made by Nutrend Industries (formerly K & K Metals) of Angwin, in the upper Napa Valley. Nutrend makes the VLM (Very Large Machine), which dominates the U.S. sparkling wine industry.


Nutrend owner John Kalua (707-965-2372) started making the VLM about 20 years ago, he says, in response to a request from Domaine Chandon. In his first seven or eight years of production, he sold 60 or 70. More recently, demand has slowed, due to market saturation. "Most (producers) are up to capacity," he says. "I would estimate that our machine is producing about 50% of the (bottle fermented) sparkling wine in the U.S."
